So, I figured I’d just laze around for this first week of retirement, and maybe even next week as well, since not only have I been pretty burnt out in general, but I was also super busy right up until my last day on the job. But since “prepping my new life” is a shiny new object, I’m itching to get started with it. And in my defense, I have no food in my kitchen (and I gave up ordering in for Presbyterian Lent), my house is a mess, and I haven’t yet done my taxes–so I’m still too stressed out to properly relax.
So after having lunch at a local diner like a bona fide retiree, I hunkered down to be productive for the rest of the day, with the crowning achievement being my successful cancellation of internet service (which of course they only let you do in person or on the phone). As evidenced by this post going live, this doesn’t mean I’m now without an internet connection in my home. What I cancelled, finally, was the service with my initial provider, whose bills I’ve continued to pay for the last 10 months because I never got around to firing them, even though I switched to a different, cheaper provider last May.
(In case anyone was wondering why this whole “relocation to France” thing will be my white whale).
Anyway, I also addressed the “no food in my kitchen” problem with a trip to Trader Joe’s, which reminded me that I don’t know what I’m doing in the “eating well” arena. Today I pretty much grabbed what ingredients I could remember from my never-changing, uber-customized “Super Green Goddess” daily office salad from sweetgreen. So if anyone has any good recipes for other healthy (and mushroom-free) meals, PLEASE pass them my way!
Meanwhile, I would like to commend the hiring manager at the TJ’s near my house, because the fella who was my cashier stopped me right as I was loading my stuff into my car to give me one of the store’s flower bouquets, to wish me a very happy retirement. 🥹 Give that young man a raise!!
